Weekend of celebrations!

My dear lovelies it was quite the weekend!  The Mr. & I have some exciting news...we have begun the process of purchasing our first home!  We are so excited and really nervous...hahaha.  We are having a new home built and are in the beginning stages of picking out our new home's features. Fun stuff! It is definitely new terrain so we having been researching and budgeting till our brains hurt.  It is going to be worth it, I can't wait!
We attended our 3rd Festa Italiana in Portland Oregon!  I was born in Naples, Italy where my Nonno (mother's father) is from, and where my mum spent most her life growing up.  My mother's boyfriend is also Italian, growing up in the Pugliese region.  The food, music, and sunshine was wonderful.  My husband looks forward to it every year and it's become a treasured tradition.  We also found some great articles of clothing that we have been on the hunt for, for ages at the mall near the square...score!!

What else could possibly happen on this wonderful weekend? Our friend's welcomed their little girl, Annabelle, into the world! I woke up Sunday morning to an excited text that she was here.  I promptly woke up the husband, and we made our way to the hospital to hold their new little one.  She is so precious.

R & R

What a wonderful escape we had! The Mr. and I headed, Wednesday last week, to Medford to visit my sister.  It was a stop on our way to visit the Mr.'s sister and brother-in-law in Reno.  It was a great visit! My sister made us dinner, took us to the movies, and also to The Cupcake Factory.  We went antique browsing and overall had a ton of fun in our short stay.  Next stop: Reno!  I wouldn't say we relaxed much on the 2nd part of our trip.  We walked around town looking at the cars entered into Reno's Hot August Nights, hiked up a mountain, and also to the bottom of Lake Tahoe to view the Vikingsholm, and visited The Washoe Club and cemetery in Virginia City  We went to bed at night so sore! It was a great time though.  I had the best Margarita EVER at Great Basin Brewery, Tahoe was beautiful, and better yet we felt rejuvenated after getting a change of scenery.  I missed our bed but other than that I could've stayed forever! Here are some photos of our adventure;
the Mr.'s dream car...it's even tattooed on him

10 miles round-trip...over 9,800 ft/elevation...brutal, but the moon was so pretty

A few lines

I have some great books to share with you!  I haven't been reading as much as usual but I have read a few in the last few months.  The first was gifted to me for Christmas from my sister.

By Tatiana de Rosnay
I wanted to keep reading till my eyes quit on me! It was a haunting, fictional story about the non-fictional event of the Vel' d'Hiv roundup.  The roundup of French Jews took place Paris, July 1942.  The secrets and storyline played out until the very end.  It tells of a journalist in modern day France piecing together the harrowing story of a girl named Sarah who lived through the roundup but who had kept many secrets throughout her entire life.  I strongly recommend this book if you love French, and/or WWII history, it will not dissapoint!
oh P.S.  I just found out last week that they made a movie so I will definitely be checking that out!

The second book is ,of course,

 Yay for my dear friend who kindly lent this to me.  Another one I just couldn't put down! The Help is a story of just that, the help in the homes of the white citizens of Jackson, Mississippi in 1962.  A young women named Skeeter decides to write stories from the view of the help. All amidst the civil rights movement, Skeeter finds herself putting their lives on the line to cross color barriers and learning ,amongst her friends and family, what side they are on. Although it is written by a white author, who herself grew up in a southern home with "help" (I'm not quite sure what to think about that) the side of the "help" was written so incredibly well. You immerse yourself fully into the characters as if it was truly them that wrote of their life. I can't wait to see the movie!!
Have any good book suggestions??
